In what is
likely a stunning piece of positive news for Windows Phone Down Under (rather than a lack of faith on the part of Optus) – WPDownUnder can confirm that the Optus Personal Online Store has completely sold out of Black Nokia Lumia 800′s! With their launch special ($49 plan over 24m) only starting 2 weeks and 1 day ago today – the model has been taken down from their Personal section of their website store. Whilst the handset is still available online from their Business plan division – this would seem to indicate an exceptionally strong start for Nokia in the Australian market and with Optus. So – for the time being, their consumer store is a big ‘No’ – not right now for web orders of the Black Lumia 800!
Per the screenshots below, you can see that the online store has dropped the Black model whilst the Business store is able to continue selling these to customers with ABN’s:
(Personal)
(Business)
In a chat session with the online staff, WPDownUnder was able to receive confirmation that Optus was indeed out of stock of these units – and furthermore they had no information on re-stocking timeframes. Whether this has come about from higher than expected demand – or low stocking levels by Optus, it remains a tangible early sign of traction for Windows Phone Down Under by Nokia.
Importantly – Optus stores can still be checked for stock – and business plans remain unaffected by this stock shortage (they are different business units and inventory pools). WPDownUnder is seeking official comment from Optus on this development – and expected re-stocking and availability from their online store.
* * * UPDATE * * *
Whilst most likely still out of stock until next week, Optus have done the sensible thing and put the Black Lumia 800 back up on their website. Saves the fuss of stories like this I guess!
Sheeds.
