Updated: Now with Release dates – Titan II 4G appears in official Telstra Advertising!

It’s been a long wait for anything official from Telstra on Australia’s first 4G Windows Phone; the HTC Titan II. With rumoured launch dates from as around the start of this month, to advice in the past week that demo devices had arrived in selected Telstra stores….firm details have remained scarce. No longer!

The new Telstra consumer catalogue “Let’s Connect” No. #9 features the first public teaser of the imminent launch of this giant of a phone!

UPDATE:

WPDownUnder has just received information for an insider tip-off that retail stores will be selling the HTC Titan II 4G on TELSTRA plans from the 22nd May 2012. Whilst an official launch may happen anytime from Tuesday the 15th (with possible online availability from this date similar to the way the Omnia W was launched) – the 22nd May will be the kick-off for in-store sales of this device based on credible news we received this morning. Whilst internal launch dates admittedly appear to have shifted a number of times on this device at Telstra, this latest date looks firm.

Thanks to one of our readers, we have the following snaps of the pages it features in – although no details on plans or pricing are confirmed.

WPDownUnder expects it to launch from tomorrow week (May 1st – with a very small chance of tomorrow) – and on a $79 plan (min. entry for no MRO). Outright price of around the mid-$800′s.

Interestingly, in the current poll on our site (see home page) – the Titan II 4G is being out-voted 6-1 in favour of the Nokia Lumia 900 as the preferred 4G Windows Phone of choice for Telstra customers. The Lumia 900 presently has no confirmed carrier to range this device Down Under.

As soon as we have confirmed details on the Titan II we will update everyone here. In the mean time, here’s a HTC video on the original HTC Titan I (no 16MP camera or 4G as the 2 main differences).

Sheeds.

Umm got told today, was coming out tommorow Seeds at my local store on north side of Brisbane, so will let all know tomorrow.

Sheeds, info is correct, went today to store – was told phone is delayed. Anyhow have to wait a little longer :(

Thanks for the heads-up. Not sure why it keeps getting pushed back!

        • Glenntspence

Just got a call from local Telstra store, release has now been pushed back to late May. Really, really sad face…

I called Telstra sales and the guy there said they don’t have a release date yet for the titan. Sounds like they’re having trouble getting stock. Apparently amazon sold out of them in the US but never had much stock in the first place. HTC must barely be making any of these, instead focussing on keeping up with demand on their ‘One’ series.

I really need to move to Telstra by mid may (spending a couple of months out bush) but not having the titan is going to make it very hard to sign a contract with them. Sad face here too.

    HI Sheeds
I’m going to the US tomorrow and planed to have a look at the Nokia 900 at ATT. If I was to purchase one – which I understand is 4G, would it work on the telstra 4 G network in Aus (and Next G when out of 4 G range).

      Hey,

Umm, unfortunately the Lumia 900 will NOT work on Telstra’s 4G network, because it supports 700MHz, 1700MHz & 2100 MHz LTE frequencies BUT it doesn’t support Telstra’s 1800MHz LTE network. It will work on the Next G (3G) network at full speed though, because AT&T & Telstra both use the same 3G frequency of 850MHz.

The other thing is, it will probably come locked to AT&T’s network and so that would also be an issue.

All you have to do is ensure it is the correct band see Sheed’s guide here http://www.wpdownunder.com/?p=4407
For Telstra make sure it supports 850mhz Network band and you should be good to go.

I’d wait for the Euro variant of the 900, which will support DC-HSPA.

We seem to be following AT&T’s footsteps with 4G phones:
HTC Velocity 4G (Raider 4G with AT&T) and now HTC Titan II 4G.
    Come on Lumia 900 =P

Thanks Sheeds for the heads up on the Titan 11.
The Nokia 900 would also have been great, but I
needed the larger phone and a high grade camera.
Christmas will come early this year!

NP :) Enjoy when you get it – Let us know what you think, or drop us a photo or two via the forums here if you get a moment! :D

Hopefully they are taking their time to ensure it is Blue Tick certified otherwise we won’t be buying them. Sheeds, any information on whether this is likely? HTC don’t have a good record in that area here.

No idea as yet…trying to find out!

  • Narna

My local Testra store was cagey about them yesterday, saying they were not available yet but they would definitely have one on display when they were.

    Any idea of price/plan yet?

    • http://www.wpdownunder.com/ Sheeds

Nothing offiical or unofficial. My guess is no MRO on a $79 plan, or MRO payment on the $59 plan similar to other new premium 4G handsets for Telstra.
